Laguna Niguel, California - Ingrid McGuire, former Mayor of Dana Point and longtime public servant, passed away after a life defined by resilience, leadership, and a deep commitment to her community.
Born in Austria, Ingrid studied chemistry at the University of Graz and received a scholarship to the United States, where she met her future husband, Jim. The couple lived abroad during the 1960s before settling permanently in California.
She was elected to the City Council in 1998 and served as Mayor Pro Tempore and Mayor from 1999 to 2000. She was recognized widely for her thoughtful leadership in the city's developing years.
Her service continued through multiple terms on the South Coast Water District Board of Directors, where she later served as Vice President. Her work contributed to important decisions on land use, water infrastructure, desalinization, and long term community planning.
She will be remembered with gratitude by her family, her many friends, and the community she served with dedication and heart.
